Update

So, what news are there on Roller Derby in Stockholm?
Well, we have had our first officical meeting, followed by our first nonofficial get-together-to-get-to-know-the-new-recruits-and-watch-the-Roller Girls-series-for-inspiration-night.

So far, so good.

Although we do have som new and absolutely fabulous girls (and one man, who is of course fabulous, too) to help us spread Roller Derby to the masses, we are still in desperate need of more skaters, refs, cheerleaders and pretty much any one who can contribute to making STRD a working league.
Even more desperate is our need to find a space for regular skating practice, since it is sort of cruical to the cause of recruiting new skaters.

On the brighter side, we might have solved the getting-quads-in-a-country-where-roller-skating-was-abandoned-in-82-problem, at least for now. It turnes out that one of the girls has a cousin who bought an entire stock of roller skates some time back, with the pupose of renting them to people. However, that never happened, so now we might get to buy them instead.

That's all folks!

MySpace

There is now a Stockholm Rollerderby(STRD) site on MySpace. There is still not that much to see, but it is there. So hop on over to MySpace and take a look (http://www.myspace.com/stockholmrollerderby), and remember to tell all your friends in the area...

So it is official!

Picture yourself a country where at least 6 months every year, there is snow. Of the 6 months where the snow is absent you have 3 months of rain. This is a country where the last rollerskaterink were abandoned in -82 and skating means ice and hockeysticks. If you continue for a while people can realize skating also can mean skateboarding or inlines, but quads?!? No way, in this country most belive quads right to exist were recalled in -83.
But yesterday, in this country where you only can skate outdoors for about 3 months every year and there are no quads, the first official steps towards a Rollerderby league were taken! You read it right, Sweden has got their first Rollerderby league! Well, to be honest we have had our first real meeting(not just talking and deciding we should get going, but we actually got going!).

The first mission was to find out where to get real new quads, we only own ancient ones and/or inlines at this moment. During the recon we had done previous to the official founding we had found a shop on the internet(http://www.powerslide.se/) that seemed to be promising. And they also had a IRL-shop in Stockholm. The guy behind the counter were a really cool german guy who was exited that we want to get the Rollerderby fever going over here as well, and he really wanted to help out but he didn't know if he could so he promised to see what he can do and also hinted that he probably would let some fanatic speedskater know about us, who migt have something up his sleeve to help us out. Not with quads, but other stuff that might be useful. So disappointed about the quad-news but happy about the great reception we had gotten we went on and started to think of a Plan B to get hold of skates in a way that won't ruin us right away.

But we also decided some other things. We obviously are too few to get a league going on hour own, we would only be two skaters and one ref and thats not much of a league, so we are set to find new girls that are insane enough to finding this a good idea! So we set a date where we must have found enogt girls to start some kind of organized practice. And that date is soon. In early May the practice will begin. And we will hopefully be able to get the first scrimmage up in late summer/early fall.

So if you live in the area around Stockholm and think this sounds like a good idea to kick other girls butt on rollerskates and getting alot of bruises at the same time, drop Nattis(natttism(a)hotmail.com) or Sooi(sooi_s(a)hotmail.com) a line.

First english post!

Ok Derbyfans and skaters!
This is the first real sign of RollerDerby on the scandinavian peninsula as far as we know.
We will try to update you on what´s happening and whats not when it comes to derby over here. At the moment we have a little to much snow to skate outside, and organisation, we have none, yet.

At the moment we are two lasses and a lad wanting derby here in scandinavia, more exactly sweden and Stockholm. So in traditional punk rock style, we do it ourselves. The lasses are strating to learn how to play and the lad will try to learn how to be a ref. But there are a few things missing. First of all, more skaters. We are doing our best to spread the word of the fabolus sport, but it might take a while. Secondly we need a track. We will of course go for a flat track at first. Going on a banked one right away just seems stupid, only the cost scares the shit out of us. Then there is all that other stuff we need as well, equipment, more refs, someone with a little medical knowledge and we will probaby find a lot of other stuff we will need. But if we are lucky we migt have our first trainingbouts in the end of the summer. Public ones? We don't dare to guess yet...

But drop in now and then and we will keep you posted of the scandinavian development.
