So it is official!

Picture yourself a country where at least 6 months every year, there is snow. Of the 6 months where the snow is absent you have 3 months of rain. This is a country where the last rollerskaterink were abandoned in -82 and skating means ice and hockeysticks. If you continue for a while people can realize skating also can mean skateboarding or inlines, but quads?!? No way, in this country most belive quads right to exist were recalled in -83.
But yesterday, in this country where you only can skate outdoors for about 3 months every year and there are no quads, the first official steps towards a Rollerderby league were taken! You read it right, Sweden has got their first Rollerderby league! Well, to be honest we have had our first real meeting(not just talking and deciding we should get going, but we actually got going!).

The first mission was to find out where to get real new quads, we only own ancient ones and/or inlines at this moment. During the recon we had done previous to the official founding we had found a shop on the internet(http://www.powerslide.se/) that seemed to be promising. And they also had a IRL-shop in Stockholm. The guy behind the counter were a really cool german guy who was exited that we want to get the Rollerderby fever going over here as well, and he really wanted to help out but he didn't know if he could so he promised to see what he can do and also hinted that he probably would let some fanatic speedskater know about us, who migt have something up his sleeve to help us out. Not with quads, but other stuff that might be useful. So disappointed about the quad-news but happy about the great reception we had gotten we went on and started to think of a Plan B to get hold of skates in a way that won't ruin us right away.

But we also decided some other things. We obviously are too few to get a league going on hour own, we would only be two skaters and one ref and thats not much of a league, so we are set to find new girls that are insane enough to finding this a good idea! So we set a date where we must have found enogt girls to start some kind of organized practice. And that date is soon. In early May the practice will begin. And we will hopefully be able to get the first scrimmage up in late summer/early fall.

So if you live in the area around Stockholm and think this sounds like a good idea to kick other girls butt on rollerskates and getting alot of bruises at the same time, drop Nattis(natttism(a)hotmail.com) or Sooi(sooi_s(a)hotmail.com) a line.

Hi Swedish skaters

I skate in a brand new league in Melbourne, Australia. We have a web page you might like to look at, we've been posting a lot of stuff on it about how we started and what we are doing about getting quad skates in a country where good quad skates are also quite rare! Come and visit us at
